Maths

At the Nottingham Academy, we are passionate about the teaching of Mathematics. We believe that children learn best when there is a clear and consistent approach across the whole school when working with numbers. At our Academy, we aim to provide to lots of different  learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Our children work with different mathematical resources and we work hard to ensure that our children develop into creative and analytical mathematicians. We work closely with the National Centre for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (NCETM) when developing our curriculum.

The Mathematics team hold Open Evenings on developing Maths at home, both for younger children and for the formal aspects of Mathematics including our calculation policy.

At Nottingham Academy, our aim is to continually challenge the children in their mathematics work. We encourage the children to apply their problem solving skills to a range of tasks and think about how they could use manipulatives to aid their understanding of a particular concept.

Please see the links below for more information on calculation policies at Nottingham Academy, please familiarise yourself with these to help you support your child in maths.
