Both our sites took part in Sign2sing assemblies today, with everyone performing the Sign2sing songs they have been practising.
On the Phase 3 site, Mr Barker held a very informative assembly, explaining what it is like to have limited hearing or to be deaf.
Mr Barker gave us some facts about limited hearing. There are more than 11 million people in the UK with some form of hearing loss, or one in six of the population and by 2035, it is estimated that there will be 15.6 million people with hearing loss in the UK – that’s one in five.
There are more than 45,000 deaf children in the UK and 24,000 people across the UK use sign language as their main language.
As a UNICEF Rights Respecting school, we work hard to uphold the rights of the child these include:
The child’s right to education.
The child’s right to play and rest.
The child’s right to have friendship
We thought about how hard it is to have these things without being able to hear.
Pupils were asked to bring in a small donation today, this goes to Sign Health, a charity which provides sign language support and helps to fund hearing aids and cochlear implants for deaf people. Thank you to everyone who has donated to this great cause, and well done to our pupils!
