Update on incident 14th May

An update from the Lead Principal on the incident in St Anns on Monday 14th May

Dear Parent/Carer

Following the incident in St Anns on Monday 14 May 2018 we would like to provide further information and reassurance to the Academy community at this time.

At around 7.50am Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Ransom Road near Coppice Park. A 16-year-old boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre following the incident. The young person received treatment and is now out of hospital.

Nottingham Academy staff attended the scene, as they were alerted to the situation on the route to work. Police officers were on the scene within minutes of the report and a 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Specialist counselling services have been provided for both pupils and staff affected and this will continue to be available as it is needed.

Nottingham Academy continues to support Police enquiries which are on-going. The Police’s local PCSO, who is based within the Academy, will continue to work closely with us to ensure pupils feel safe. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information, is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 109 of 14 May 2018.

Nottingham Academy recognises that youth violence within many city communities continues to rise. As the largest school in Nottingham we are committed to instilling positive values in our young people and we promote 'respect values' in our school, environment and the wider community. The vast majority of our young people demonstrate these values and are excellent ambassadors for the Academy and our local community.

In early June Nottingham Academy will host two open community meetings. These open meetings will be held at Greenwood Campus and Ransom Road Campus and are intended to give an opportunity for Academy and community representatives to come together with parents to discuss recent incidents. The meetings will also provide a forum for parents to raise any concerns they may have and to discuss solutions. A further communication will provide the date and time of the meeting once confirmed.

We thank the Academy community for their continued support.
Yours sincerely
Mr G Rae
Lead Principal, Nottingham Academy
