Theme Week - 'The Discoverer'
The whole school theme for the coming this week is 'The Discoverer' looking at Art and Nature and at the work of Andy Goldsworthy.
Andy Goldsworthy (OBE) is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist who produces are in nature, using natural materials in natural and urban settings. His work takes many forms, from rocks and leaves to ice sculpted around trees, creating beautiful art work which is photgraphed in situe.
Pupils have been collecting materials from natural sources at Colwick Woods and created art using different coloured autumn leaves, twigs and grasses.
"I stop at a place or pick up a material because I feel that there is something to be discovered. Here is where I can learn."
"Movement, change, light, growth and decay are the lifeblood of nature, the energies that I I try to tap through my work."
This work further contributes to our Adventure Passport project wher we set the children challenges throughout the year to have outdoor adventures. This is a great way of engaging the children with the outdoors and to provide them with a range of skills. We feel very passionately about encouraging the children to get outside in the fresh air and challenging themselves to experience new adventures. Children who learn outdoors know more, understand more, develop a greater range of skills, feel better and work more cooperatively.
Year 2 have made a great start with their nature themed art!
