Nottingham Academy Primary is working towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, currently we are proud to have recived Bronze Status!

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights and in 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential and a rights respecting school teaches the children these principles. From this starting point they also learn their responsibility to respect others rights in all relationships in the community.

The Nottingham Academy believe strongly in the ethos and values of the UNICEF ‘Rights Respecting School’ award. We are all working hard together towards gaining this status.

Every term staff and children will be making links with the curriculum to a particular area of Rights Respecting:

• Autumn 1 – The right to have friendship
• Autumn 2 – The right to choose your own religion and beliefs.
• Spring 1 – The right to play and rest.
• Spring 2 – The right to food, clothing and a safe place to live and to have your basic needs met.
• Summer 1 – The right to know your rights.
• Summer 2 – The right to the best health care possible, safe water to drink, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment, and information to help you stay well.

UNICEF Rights Respecting Ambassadors

Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors also act as our school councillors. Two are chosen from each year group. The ambassadors meet twice a term to discuss developments, progress and ideas relating to the school themes and other Rights Respecting issues.
