Stories with Councillor Mellen
Reading on a narrow boat.... find out more here..
Ms Hewitt took nine Year 2 and Year 4 children today down to the Canal Wharf in Nottingham today. They went on a trip on the narrow boat along the canal with Councillor Mellen. On the way Councillor Mellen read the children some stories. The children had the chance to then explore the boat and have a question and answer session with the skipper Debbie, finding out about canal life. the children had a great time and for the majority of them, it was their first time on a boat!
This was part of Councillor Mellen's children, 20 neighborhood, 1 month' challenge" where he is reading to 2018 children across the city in different places. This is to raise money for the Imagination Library charity, the charity, originally launched by the American country singer in Tennessee in 1995 and brought to Nottingham in 2009, delivers a free book every month to children from birth until the age of five.
It is now running in seven wards within the city, with more than 4,000 Nottingham children registered for the scheme. However, the charity aims to be available to all children in the city’.
