PE and Sports round-up 2019
Year 5/6 Cross Country- 16th January
Our cross country team took part in a huge competition at Wollaton Park in Nottingham.
Conditions were tough and the wind, mud and rain made things particularly difficult for our competitors. Fortunately, all of our children were highly motivated and determined to do their absolute best and there wasn't a single moan from any of them on the day. Both the girls and boys events featured over 100 competitors from school's around the county and we had top 40 finishes in the girls competition from both Gabriella and Hana. In the boys both La'Kye and Charlie came inside the top 20. Well done to all who took part.
Year 4/5 Dodgeball- 22nd January
Our Year 4/5 dodgeball team made their way to Harvey Hadden to compete against other schools from the city. The team was made up of Oskar, Jack, Chyna, Ellie, Charlie, Freedy, Ayden and Emilia. They had worked hard in training with our premier staff and were really up for this tournament. Their hard work paid off as the team played superbly together showing real determination, co-ordination and great tactical awareness to win 6 out of their 7 matches. Unfortunately on this occasion there were no medals up for grabs but the team were real winners on the day.
Girls Football Match v Portland Spencer Academy- 28th January
After a loss and two draws our girls were desperate for their first win of the season. This was clear from the very start of the match where our team got on the front foot from the first whistle. Captain Eve setting the tone with some typical tough tackling and motivational words to all around her. Hana was putting in her normal energetic display and was being backed up well by Tayyibah who wasn't going to let her size stop her winning the ball back for us all the time. As a result of this our attacking trio of Chyna, Maleeha and Gabriella were having lots of opportunities to shoot at goal. And this paid off as Gabriella and Chyna both scored two goals each in an incredible 4-0 win! Special mention also to goalkeeper Emilia who despite having little to do made a great save towards the end to keep a clean sheet!
Visit to Derbyshire CCC- 30th January
A group of 14 children made their way to Derbyshire CCC for the day and were treated to a fantastic experience. The day started with an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the ground that Derbyshire play all of their home professional fixtures at. On this tour the children got to see the home and away changing rooms, the director's suite, the press box and even got to spend some time in the Sky Sports studio which is situated within the ground. After that the children broke for lunch where they were greeted by professional players Wayne Madsen, Anuj Dal and Luis Reece who answered questions from the children and provided the children with some inspirational words. After lunch the children were treated to their very own cricket session delivered by Anuj Dal and the enthusiasm was evident from all of the children. Everyone had a great day and a special mention must go out to our tour guide Tony who provided the children with mementos, stories and exclusive access to all areas of the ground.
